SHREVEPORT ZOMBIE CENTRAL
4th Annual Shreveport Zombie Walk 2011 was a HUGE success! We had approximately 500 zombies and zombie enthusiasts in attendance and raised 1,460 lbs of food in only 2 hours!
With a change in location and exciting, different things available at this year's event, volunteers and coordinator (that's me, Michelle) had a lot to do and learn, so I personally want to thank everyone for their patience and kind words. You all make it SO worth it to put this on every year!

What is World Zombie Day™?
World Zombie Day™ is the day that all ghouls from Kentucky to Kokomo, from Atlanta to Afghanistan, from Washington to Wales, and from Pittsburgh to Puerto Rico can celebrate together in a gore-covered bliss! Every major and minor city of the world that has ever hosted a zombie walk can band together and give one solid groan heard WORLDWIDE for the zombie cause! Rise up undead brothers and sisters! Now is our time to groan and shamble for world hunger!
When and where is the Shreveport Zombie Walk?
Every year, on World Zombie Day, which falls on an early weekend day in October, as decided by the main coordinators at the "It's Alive Show" website, the Shreveport Zombie Walk is held. The first 3 years' walks were at Mall St. Vincent. The 4th Annual was the biggest and most successful yet; it was held in Downtown Shreveport next to the Caddo Courthouse on Oct. 8, 2011, with approximately 500 zombies in attendance!
Why a "zombie walk?"
There are lots of ways to help our community - making them fun and creative brings in more people, which brings in more donations! At the Shreveport Zombie Walk, the only thing we ask attendees to bring is non-perishable food to donate to the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana. In 2010, we raised almost 900 lbs. of food! Anyone who brings food to donate will receive tickets for door prize drawings at the walk.
What do people do at the zombie walk?
People of all ages attend the zombie walk! Dress up in your most creative, scary, funny, etc...zombie costume for a chance to win a costume prize! When the event begins at, zombies will for the walk, food donations are accepted, the crowd is entertained with music, and judges check out everyone's zombie-attire, to later announce their picks for the best costume prizes. Door prizes are given out throughout the event; anyone who brings non-perishable food receives a ticket for a chance to win (must be present to win.)
Near the end of the event, all zombies gather together as one large crowd and shamble, moan and groan to raise awareness of of hunger issues in our community.
Are there rules/guidelines?
We must always respect the property, we must abide by the "no touching" rule - meaning that if someone is not participating, leave them alone, we are not a haunted house, and don't" jump-scare" children! One rule that every participant of the Shreveport Zombie Walk MUST abide by is NO FAKE BLOOD can be smeared on or used to destruct property. Please be mindful of the application of your fake blood - it is a safety hazard if it drips onto surfaces. Also, when we are walking as a crowd, DO NOT RUN - we are "Romero-style" zombies, not "2004 Dawn of the Dead" zombies! If you cannot abide by these rules, you may be asked to leave by crowd control or Shreveport Police
